China's tech giant Huawei has donated two sets of ultramodern video conference facilities to Ghana's Ministry of Health to support the country's efforts to combat the COVID-19 pandemic, Huawei Ghana said here on Friday.
"We hope the facilities will help facilitate communications among Ghana's health officials since social distancing is important during this critical time," said Zhou Wei, chief executive officer of Huawei Ghana.
Ghana has imposed a lockdown in major cities such as Accra and Kumasi since Monday as its confirmed cases of COVID-19 have been on the rise.
Wang Shiting, Chinese ambassador to Ghana, said the facilities will also help connect Ghanaian health authorities and medical workers with those in China and experts elsewhere in the world, adding that China will do its best to help the country deal with the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Kwaku Agyemang-Manu, Ghana's health minister, expressed his gratitude to the donation, saying the valuable experience of China sheds light on Ghana's response to the COVID-19 pandemic and the country will continue its efforts to fight against the pandemic.
