Lebanese cabinet releases 298 mln USD for hospitals amid COVID-19

Lebanon's cabinet released on Thursday 450 billion Lebanese pounds (298.5 million U.S. dollars) for hospitals amid severe financial crisis facing all medical establishments in the country, the National News Agency reported.

Lebanon's hospitals are now facing a serious issue due to the COVID-19 outbreak, it said.

Head of the Private Hospitals Syndicate Sleiman Haroun announced a day earlier that 15 hospitals are facing collapse while calling for the state to pay the 2019 dues to hospitals which amount to around 600 billion pounds.

Haroun noted that many hospitals are struggling to pay the salaries of their staff, noting that there are 25,000 employees in the health sector.
