Tokyo stocks lose ground in morning on Wall Street's weak overnight lead

Tokyo stocks lost ground Tuesday morning following losses on Wall Street overnight after the U.S. ramped up its tariff rhetoric.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 171.36 points, or 0.77 percent, from April 26 to 22,087.37.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, fell 7.55 points, or 0.47 percent, at 1,610.38.
Machinery, mining, and glass and ceramics product-linked issues comprised those that declined the most before the morning break.
Markets were closed during the 10-day Golden Week string of national holidays through Monday.
