Foreign tourists to Indonesia drop by 88.25 pct in October

The number of foreign tourist visits to Indonesia reached 158,190 in October, a drastic drop by 88.25 percent compared to the same month last year, according to the Central Agency of Statistics.

However, the number in October increased by 4.57 percent compared to that in September, the agency's Deputy of the Distribution and Services Statistics Setianto told a virtual press conference on Tuesday.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, several countries have eased lockdowns but some others are still tightening the restrictions which affect foreign tourist visits.

"This condition makes foreign tourists think of health issues. Thus, it is a must for us to apply the health protocols including washing hands, wearing masks and keeping distances if we want our economy to move," he said.

He pointed out that cumulatively the visits of foreign travelers to Indonesia in January-October reached 3.72 million, or decreased by 72.35 percent compared to 13.45 million in the same period last year.
