Tokyo stocks lose ground in morning as yen's rise dents sentiment

Tokyo stocks lost ground Thursday morning as the market mood was dented by the yen's rise against the U.S. dollar overnight which hurt issues broadly exposed to overseas markets, like exporters.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 55.91 points, or 0.24 percent, from Wednesday to 23,263.96.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, lost 8.35 points, or 0.49 percent, at 1,691.98.
Pulp and paper, textile and apparels and rubber product-linked issues comprised those that decline the most by the morning break.
