Malaysia's April producer prices index falls 5.1 pct

Malaysia's producer price index (PPI) for local production decreased 5.1 percent year on year in April, official data showed Friday.

Malaysian Statistics Department said in a statement that the drop was the lowest rate of change recorded since November 2015.

The mining index registered a decline of 58.3 percent while water supply index drop at 1 percent.

In contrast, the index of agriculture, forestry and fishing increased 8.7 percent followed by electricity and gas supply index (0.2 percent) and manufacturing index (0.1 percent).

On a monthly basis, the PPI for local production fell 2.7 percent as compared to March.
