Jinxiang County is one of the main bases for onion production in The China, which was named as "the home of onion in China" by the nation in 1996.
The onion-planting area is up to 3,333 ha. and total output of onion is up to 200,000 ton. Farmers grown huge acreage of yellow onion and red onion here. They cultivate good varieties and harvest them at May every year. Then they dry them on the ground before they put them in cold store and maintain a constant temperature around 0C. It is very important to keep a constant temperature in cold store otherwise onion may get frozen.
The varieties of Jinxiang onion are those with red or yellow peel and sperical or oblate bulb. Each bulb weighs up to 250-350g with an average horizontal diameter of 8.7cm and an average vertical diameter of 7.6cm. The products exports to South Korea, Russia, Japan and other countries and regions in southeast Asia.
