Jinxiang's garlic is famous all over the world for its characteristics such as big size, white peel, holding-together clove, durable storage, fragrant and moderately hot flavor,about 70% of Chinese exported garlic is from Jinxiang. It won a silver metal in 1992's China Agriculture Fair and was recognized as a famous brand of China by the Chinese Committee of Recognition of Famous Brands in 1996 and as a green food with A class by Chinese Center for Development of Green Foods. Jinxiang County was named as "the home of garlic in China" by the nation in 1996.
The area for planting garlic has been expanding since 1985. In 1997, the garlic-planting area was up to 33,333 ha. and the outputs of garlic bolt and garlic bulb were up to 85,000 ton and 500,000 ton, respectively. Jinxiang County has become the main garlic base with 70% of whole national garlic exports, exporting its products to more than fifty countries and regions such as the United States, Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, Hongkong.
