Jilin Oil Province is located in the western plain of Jilin Province, neighboring Daqing Oil Province. The proven oil and gas fields are mainly distributed in the southern part of the Songliao Basin. A total of 21 oilfields have been put into development. The produced crude oil is characterized by moderate relative density, medium viscosity, high freezing point, high paraffin content, and low sulfur content.
In September 1959, a commercial oil flow was obtained from well Fu-27 during formation testing, inducing the discovery of Fuyu Oilfield—a major oilfield of Jilin Oil Province. Fuyu Oilfield features in structural reservoirs, with its major oil-bearing formations buried at a depth of 300-500 meters, and with a thickness of 30-100 meters. In 1970, the all-round development of Fuyu Oilfield began.
In recent years, significant achievements and progress have been obtained in the exploration of lithological reservoirs and deep gas in this oil province. A mass uncompartmentalized lithological reservoir was discovered in the Honggang-Daan area, making it an integral reserve block of 30 million metric tons. A gas flow with a daily output of 460,000 cubic meters was obtained from well Changshen-1 during formation testing, discovering the first high-yield large uncompartmentalized gas reservoir in the south of Songliao Basin. In 2007, the proven gas in place in this region exceeded 50 billion cubic meters.
In 2008, Jilin Oil Province produced 7.01 million tons of oil equivalent, including 6.55 million tons of crude oil.
