Until the end of 1996, there are 150 cobalt mining areas in China and they distribute in 24 provinces (regions). Gansu Province has the most storage, which accounts for 30% of the total storage of the whole country. Recoverable deposits of cobalt metal is 0.4716 million tons and resources quantity of cobalt metal is about 1.4 million tons. Most of them are associated resources and there is few single cobalt deposit. Annual consumption of cobalt in China has been steady in 1200 tons in recent years, domestic production of cobalt including cobalt oxide converting to cobalt is about 600----700 tons every year. But domestic production of cobalt cannot meet the domestic need and half of it needs to import.
