Geographical Advantages
Besides being the provincial capital, Nanjing is also the political, economic and cultural center of Jiangsu Province as well as one of the most important southeastern central cities in the lower reaches of the Yangtze River. Being at the intersection t of he Yangtze River Economic Belt and the coastal open area, it is one of the four central cities of the Yangtze River Valley and one of the three central cities of the delta.

Environmental Protection
Nanjing has constructed over 700 sets of pollution control and management facilities, and has completed projects to clean sludge from lakes and rivers and sewage treatment systems. All 12 monitoring parameters for the city's water catchment zones meet the required standard. In 2006, the number of days of fine air quality in the urban areas reached 305. There were 10 natural protection zones with an area of over 33,088 hectares.

Banking and Insurance
With a developed market and active commerce and trade activities, the financial institutions in Nanjing have achieved rapid development. There are 21 banks of various categories in Nanjing, with over 1100 outlets, including 3 foreign banks (Standard Chartered Bank, HengSheng Bank and KBC Bank). All ATMs in Nanjing are on an integrated network, accepting over 20 different cards.

By the end of 2006, saving deposits, both in RMB and foreign currencies in Nanjing amounted to 596 billion RMB, an increase of 14.1% over the previous year, with loans both in RMB and foreign currencies at 532.7 billion RMB, up 15.6% over 2005. Premiums collected by insurance companies in the city rose to 9 billion RMB, up by 24.3 per cent.

Government Efficiency
The Nanjing Municipal Government has put in place a range of information and advice services for business. These include the Nanjing Commercial Service Center, the Nanjing Municipal Center for Foreign Company Complaints and the Nanjing Association for Foreign-invested Enterprises. The Taxation Service Hall has become a one-stop shop for all tax-related matters, allowing tax registration certificates to be issued on the spot if all formalities are in order.
