Sixteen Ports along Yangtse River Delta IV

Wuxi Port

 

Wuxi Port is China’s first inland river port serving as an international container transferring port. It is also a second-class port approved by the state, with 519 meters of coastline and 12 thousand square meters of hard ground area. By now, the port has realized the goal of four-level navigation line. Cargo throughput in 2004 was 35.43 million tons, up 22.6% over the same time last year.

 

Changzhou Port

 

The 11 meters deep seascraft berth and 10 thousand-ton level general dock enables Changzhou Port to meet direct navigation or berth need of 10 thousand-ton seacrafts. In 2004, the port completed 2.82 million tons of cargo throughputs, of which 1.444 million tons’ foreign trade cargo throughput, up 31% and 20% over the previous year. Through the year, Changzhou Port received about 1046 of ships for foreign trade, and 124 of them being foreign ships.

 

Yangzhou Port

 

Yangzhou Port has three 10 thousand-ton docks as well as thousand-ton of passenger transport dock and cargo transportation dock each for one. The yearly cargo throughput has reached 8 million tons. Meanwhile, Yizhen Port and Jiangdou Port have developed in some scale, too.

At the beginning of 2003, the Yangzhou municipal committee and government regarded port construction as the precondition and foundation of coastal areas’ development, and devoted efforts to integrate resources of Yizheng Port and Jiangdou Port to give a full development of Yangzhou Port. Under the guideline of “one port, two port areas” (Yangzhou Port, Yizheng and Jiangdou port area), the total cargo throughput of Yangzhou City in 2004 realized 17.68 million tons, up 10% over the previous year.

 

Suzhou Port

 

Suzhou port is consisted by Zhangjiagang, Changshu and Taicang port area, which are all excellent ports along the south bank of the lower reaches of Changjiang River. In 2002, the three ports were integrated as one port, Suzhou Port, since the municipal government conducted an optimize integration over ports supervised by the city.

In recent years, Suzhou City takes a series of steps to strengthen berth construction. Among 19 newly started berth constructions in 2004, 16 of them being 10 thousand-ton berth. By now, there are 13 berths have completed construction, 10 of which being 10 thousand-ton berth. The actual new added throughput capacity reached 1215 tons. Suzhou Port has also been listed as one of China’ main coastal ports.

Cargo throughput in 2004 was 90.60 million tons, up 44.2% over the same time last year.
