Sixteen Ports along Yangtse River Delta I

Shanghai Port

 

Located at the entrance of Yangtse River to the East Sea and inside of Huangpujiang River, Shanghai Port is within the boundary of Shanghai City, which is in the east part of Yangtse River. Shanghai Port is the center of China coastline from north to south, facing rivers and seas, a very good geographical location. Through the port, approximately 6o% of the total commodities in Shanghai and over 99% of the foreign trade commodities are being imported or exported.
In 2004, a total of 379 million tons of cargo throughput was realized by the port, accounting for 15% of nationwide cargo throughput along coastal ports, and surpassed Rotterdam Port by 154mt. This enables Shanghai Port being the second world largest freight port after Singapore Port (388mt of transportation). Meanwhile, container throughput in Shanghai Port completed 14.554 million standard containers, rising 29% over the previous year, the third largest container throughput port overall the world.

 

Zhoushan Port

 

Zhoushan Port is located in Zhoushan City, Zhejiang Province, the intersection of Yangtse River and North-to-South navigation line, just like in the crossing of letter “T”. The port enjoys aboundant deep-water coastline and port construction resources along the port. The total coastline length suitable to build harbors and ports are about 1538km, of which deep-water coastline above 10 meters is 183.2km, more than 20-meter depth being 82.8km. Along the port, there are eight port areas, namely Dinghai, Shenjiamen, Laotangshan, Gaoting, Qushan, Sidiao, Luhuashan and Yangshan and etc. Besides, among 352 berths, 11 of them being more than 10 thousand-ton of berths.
In 2004, the port accomplished 73.5926mt of cargo throughput, the ninth largest one among coastal ports.

 

Jiaxing Port

 

Situated at the south part of Shanghai City and the north bank of Hangzhou Bay, Jiaxing Port has jurisdiction over Jiaxing Port, Zhejiang Zhapu Economic Development Zone, Jiaxing Import& Export processing Zone and Zhapu Town. The population is 72,000, with total landmass being 54 square kilometers. Jiaxing Port is a State Council approved port to open to foreign ships. Enjoying excellent deep-water coastline and port condition, the yearly throughput of Jiaxing Port is about 15mt. In addition, Jiaxing Port opened the first container line in 2002, ended the history of non-container transportation since the port being built.

 

Taizhou Port

 

Taizhou Port is the water carriage hinge for central coastal areas of Zhejiang province. The total coastal line is 745 kilometers, accounting for 28% of that of the whole province. Among 15 ports, the most important are the “three bays and three ports”, that is, Heman port area in Taizhou Bay, Damaiyu port area in Leqing Bay, Jiantiao port area in Sanmen Bay. Besides, 980 kilometers of inland river navigation network enables ships sail freely from seas to oceans and vice versa.
In 2002, a total of 16.135mt cargo throughput, 1.1142mt of foreign trade throughput and 35 thousand standard containers were completed by Taizhou Port. In seven ten thousand-ton of berths planned to build by the part before 2007, six of them are private investment construction with invested amount of RMB600 million.
