The Port of Lianyungang, situated at the middle of the coast of China, is one of the bridgeheads at the east end of the new Eurasian Continental Bridge and is one of the coastal hub ports engaged in coal, bulk cargo and container transportation in the middle of China's coastal area.

In 2008, Lianyungang Port had a cargo throughput 17.6% higher, and that of container by 50%. Though in the background of financial crisis, 2008 saw Lianyungang Port top 100 million tons throughput, and container throughput exceeded 3 million TEU. Lianyungang Port insists on diversifying the financing sources, channels and structure, to secure the fund for port development. 150,000 tons channel brings the port an international deepwater port, making preparation for North Jiangsu’s economic development and also the Midwest. The construction of 300,000 tons deepwater channel will take the port one step toward the “marine highway”. RMB-20.0-billion investment will upgrade the port-based industrial cluster effect, and listing plan will optimize the corporation resources, build a favorable environment meeting market requirement and suitable operation. Now the port is facing a strategic opportunity and an important period for transportation system construction.
